Please follow the instructions below when preparing and shipping the cremated remains.
Please ensure the cremated remains are securely contained in a suitable, sealed container.
The container should be:
Securely closed and double bagged. Use only disposable containers and bags.
Leak-resistant
Properly identified with the name of the person being memorialized
Please place the cremated remains inside the USPS Cremated shipping box with appropriate protective packing material to prevent movement or damage during shipping. The USPS is the only shipper that does cermated remains. USPS shipping boxes linked above. Some Post Offices carry them in store.

Please do not ship the cremated remains until you have received shipping instructions from Smoky Mountain Forever.
Ship the package using the approved USPS shipping service and retain your tracking information until the scattering has been completed.
Shipping costs to Smoky Mountain Forever are the responsibility of the funeral home/crematory and are not included in the $229 service fee.

Once the package arrives, Smoky Mountain Forever will:
Confirm receipt of the cremated remains.
Securely store them until the scheduled scattering.
Complete the unattended scattering in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Document the scattering location.
Record the GPS coordinates.
Take photographs of the scattering location.
After the scattering is completed, the funeral home or crematory will receive a presentable, unbranded package to provide to the family.

Certificate of Scattering
GPS location
Photographs of the scattering location
The materials are provided unbranded so the funeral home or crematory can present them directly to the family as part of their service.
